Egypt Sherrod

As the energetic and endearing host of HGTV’s acclaimed series Property Virgins, Egypt Sherrod knows a good opportunity when she sees it. In addition to being the star of the highly rated show, Egypt has had a 20-year award-winning radio broadcast career in New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Atlanta. She turned her talent for talk into a flair for flipping houses as the owner of The Egypt Sherrod Real Estate Group, and helps others achieve financial freedom through her humanitarian association Egypt Cares Family Foundation.

Egypt, born into a family with successful real estate agents, property flippers and commercial property managers in Philadelphia, initially didn’t want to follow the family career path. She graduated Temple University with a BA in Mass Communications, Broadcasting and Telecommunications. Her initial interest was in Entertainment Law, but at age eighteen she interned at a local radio station as a receptionist. She admired the emotional influence of radio hosts and how they could put a smile on their listener’s face, ultimately making a difference in their day. The production director was impressed by Egypt’s ability to charm and engage an audience. He found her positive enthusiasm infectious and gave her the hosting opportunity on Jazz FM that would ultimately change her life. Egypt’s warm persona worked well on radio and she quickly won over her guests and listeners. Her career took her from her hometown of Philadelphia to NYC, where she went on to host WBLS 107.5 & Power 105.1 interviewing A-listers including Oprah Winfrey, Prince, Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Jay-Z, Beyoncé and more. She has also been a staple on radio stations in major cities such as 100.3 The Beat in Philadelphia, V103 in Atlanta, and 92Q in Baltimore.

Egypt made the conscious decision early in her career to invest her money. She bought her first investment property when she was just 23 and was a home owner by 24. She started small, and then slowly began buying dilapidated homes and flipping them for a profit, quickly realizing she had inherited the family talent. After receiving her real estate license, she put her radio connections to good use, offering her services to her celebrity guests. The natural rapport she developed with her talent– and her entrepreneurial savvy – paved the way for her first big name clients, including numerous celebrities as well as Jets and Giants football players. Over the span of her career, Egypt and team sold hundreds of properties and created a successful referral business with representatives of The Egypt Sherrod Real Estate Group all across the continental U.S.

Having been nurtured through her own first property purchase, Egypt’s genuine empathy towards first time home buyers made her the perfect host of HGTV’s “Property Virgins.” A casting director for HGTV thought the same, and when the show was looking for a new host he suggested Egypt. At the time, she was juggling a full-time radio job as well as managing her New Jersey based real estate business, and her duel expertise impressed executives. Finding another outlet to educate and encourage those in the market, buyers and viewers easily relate to Egypt’s no-nonsense approach and genuine care for their investment. It’s obviously a winning combination as the highly-rated show has just filmed the 200th episode in March and will launch its 11th season in August.

Egypt knows her family’s support and mentorship has played a huge role in her success in the real estate industry and beyond. She holds her spirituality in high regard, and knew she needed to create an outlet to give back. The Egypt Cares Family Foundation is based out of Atlanta and allows Egypt to offer inspiring and constructive lectures, boot camps and seminars to others. The main focus of the organization is to educate both men and women about the importance of wealth preservation and home ownership. The foundation’s work has been very successful, earning her many praises including the Mission Award from WEEN (Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network) and several Proclamations from Brooklyn President Marty Markowitz for her “Egypt Cares Give Back Tour,” an annual coat and toy drive.  Egypt has also received the Humanitarian Citation from the Borough of New York, State Assembly Citation as a Humanitarian and Community Advocate, as well as the New York City Council Citation for Community Service. Add devoted mother and wife to her many accolades and it’s fair to say that Egypt takes being a prolific, multitasking entrepreneur in her stride.
