Elevating the Shopping Experience

Since its inception in 2011, OpenSky, the social shopping site founded by John Caplan, has attracted 2 million members and nearly 100 industry insiders in Food, Style, Beauty, Healthy Living and Home Décor who are making 30 million connections inside the network. Users create their own shopping circle by connecting to these experts as well as their friends for a more personal shopping experience – think “SoHo Meets Facebook.”  Members can explore their own individual taste, and discover new products through their connections, creating a truly inspiring and unique shopping experience.

This first of its kind shopping destination strives to make the everyday less ordinary, more special, and all the more specialized by matching members with relevant insiders who share the same interests or needs.

Shopping with Experts

Differentiated by the ability to connect and share with friends and experts around shopping, OpenSky allows members access into the minds of its insiders, as they showcase their real-life inspirations and go-to products. In the Food space, no other shopping site brings together this many and this caliber of culinary influencers in one place, including Bobby Flay, Andrew Zimmern, Tom Colicchio, Alton Brown, and Guy Fieri, among others. Within the same domain, members gain access to premium, and sometimes exclusive, products, tools, subscriptions, and food items.

Imagine grocery shopping with Sarabeth Levine for her legendary preserves, with Bobby Flay as he explains why he uses a Mediterranean Spice Set (and why you need it!), or with master baker Buddy Valastro for his must-have baking tools. Members can also find out first-hand why Michael Ruhlman designed his own spoon to create a perfectly poached egg. OpenSky celebrates the diversity and unique thinking of its insiders, and prides itself on connecting these in-the-know experts with enthusiastic users.

Shelf Space for Small Businesses

OpenSky takes pride in showcasing primarily unique, discretionary items that are hard-to-find elsewhere, as well as creating shelf space for small businesses and manufacturers’ who would not normally be able to compete with big box, mass retailers. From Mohawk Valley Trading Company to Slant Shack and Hoboken Farms, many of the products featured by insiders on OpenSky are locally sourced and produced, with a large number of products made in America.
