AOL: Patriots Players Team Up With Guy Fieri

Tom Brady, Patriots players team up with Guy Fieri for a good cause — and plenty of food and football

The clouds over Boston couldn’t dampen the spirits of Tom Brady, Guy Fieri or any of the guests at the Cooking with Best Buddies Food and Wine Festival and accompanying football game at Harvard University.

Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization benefiting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, kicked off a weekend’s worth of festivities in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Friday evening.

Popular celebrity chef and TV personality Guy Fieri hosted the second annual Guy Cooking with Best Buddies event while New England Patriots quarterback and Super Bowl LI MVP Tom Brady held the Best Buddies Football Challenge flag football game at Harvard Stadium.

The game featured Brady quarterbacking for both teams alongside some of his famous friends, including Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy and Patriots teammates Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, James White and Dion Lewis.

Brady and his teammates ran onto the field at Harvard Stadium to raucous applause, just under four months since the future Hall of Famer won New England its fifth Super Bowl trophy. Festival sponsors Pepsi and Shaws-Star Market fielded the opposing teams — though Brady spent time on offense for both sides.

Brady’s eldest son, Jack, took to the gridiron for team Shaws-Star Market and caught a touchdown from his father. Jack was was given the game’s “Best Catch” award for his efforts.

Star wide receiver Julian Edelman wasn’t so lucky. His quarterback and close friend granted him the “Biggest Drop” award after the game — though Brady reminded the crowd that Edelman “caught the biggest one of the year,” referencing the unbelievable game-saving catch in the fourth quarter of this year’s Super Bowl.

Much like in Super Bowl LI, Brady led Team Pepsi back from a late-game deficit to a thrilling victory. He threw a touchdown as time expired to give Team Pepsi the win, with an impressive final score of 80-74 over Team Shaws-Star Market.

Meanwhile, Guy Fieri and dozens of New England’s best chefs were busy providing food and drinks to hungry patrons inside the university. Bite-sized portions of meals ranging from burgers to nachos to plenty of seafood from familiar names including Legal Sea Foods and Boston Burger Company were available to pair with an assortment of wine and cocktails throughout the festival.

Best Buddies founder and chairman Anthony Shriver insists the event gets “bigger and better every year.”

The weekend’s activities continued on Saturday as bikers from across the state of Massachusetts began their trek to Hyannis Port on Cape Cod as part of the Best Buddies Challenge.

Shriver has stated that the events over the weekend are expected to bring in over $6 million for Best Buddies.
