BrooksBuzz: President Rebecca Brooks Travels to Greece and Croatia

Our president, @brookette1, took the trip of a lifetime and is excited to share details about her journey!

Where did you go?

We traveled to Greece and stayed in Paros, Santorini, Naxos & Athens and then visited a few more of the 1200+ islands in Croatia.

Where was the most memorable place you stayed?

Hands down, The Blue Dome Cavehouse, steps from the iconic Blue Domes on the cliffs of Oia, Santorini.

We had so many incredible meals including countless Greek Salads – a few standouts include:

  • Dinner at Kaviovvi Candouni in Oia – this family-owned and operated restaurant had a warm romantic vibe and the calamari and fish were among the best I’ve ever had.
  • Lunch at Vinica Monkvic located in an idyllic village outside of Dubrovnik on the crystal clear River Ljuta. Everything was homemade from the bread and cheese to the ham (which they cured for 2 years) and grilled meats.

What were your favorite memories and experiences from the trip?

  • We explored magical spots in the Adriatic Sea including Blue Grotto & Green Cave in Hvar, Croatia.
  • Visited remote Stiniva Beach, near Vis Croatia – these turquoise waters were only accessible by boat and then by swimming over 100 yards.
  • We spent the day with Grgo from Natural Hvar Tours, who is a 7th generation local. We biked more than 20 miles through historical towns including Stari Grad, Ager and Jelsa.  We made a stop at Grgo’s farm where we enjoyed fresh tomatoes off the vine, hand-picked watermelons and lavender (the symbol of the island), and drank ice cold water infused with lemongrass and lavender. At the end of the day, we visited his 350-year-old home where he shared his family tradition of wine making.
  • An early morning 6 mile hike in Greece along the rim of a caldera from Oia to Fira. We then visited archeological dig, Akrotiri – a Bronze Age settlement that was destroyed in a volcanic eruption during the 16th century BC.  After years of study, our guide, Mariana (an archeologist), is convinced THIS was Atlantis.
